Christmas in Sydney - 2012

Image
I'm having a pat-myself-on-the-back moment, -2 postings in 2 days. So far, so good..woohoo! Christmas was awesome. Can anyone guess who's Papa Santa this time? Teehee..... Ayisha got pampered with lots & lots of presents, as per usual. This is the dessert spread. See that sexy looking golden topping, whipped cream filling trifle on the left? I made that. Yeahaa.. It's banana toffee trifle, recipe taken from Better Homes & Garden. Super easy & crazy delish. I swear to you, EVERYONE loved it.  To date I've made it 4 times and I get the same responses every time. I don't know if I'll ever go back to making my  mum's trifle  again. You know what? It's that easy I could tell you right now how to make it. Not to worry about the amount of ingredients whatsoever cos it's totally up to you. Can't go wrong with this one. Ready? Ingredients (by layer) 1) 6 Crunchie chocolate bars - or any chocolate bars with...

Eid in Adelaide

Image
It's been a while! Lots of stuff has happened and a lot more to come. So much that I want to write about, especially involving Squeaky & Grunty but being the Eid/Raya month and all, there has to be an Eid post. :) To me, a big part of Eid is about being with family. The only time ever that I spent Eid abroad was   4 years ago, in Sydney with Michael. Not much of a celebration but it was ok. See, it was just us.   This year is my 2nd time having to spend Eid abroad and a first for the kids. Well, 1st ever for Eliyas :p I didn't want it to be just ok for them. I wanted them to be with family and to really celebrate Eid, especially for Ayisha who's been spending her Eids this past years surrounded by lots & lots of them.  So off we went on a short trip to Adelaide to be with my brother & his family . Ayisha was so excited to get to see her cousins again, it reminded me of how I was many many years ago, eagerly waiting for my cousins to arrive at my ...

Work & Play

Image
After watching an episode of Peppa Pig called "Work & Play" with Ayisha;  Me: Mummy work or play Ayisha?  Ha: Play  Me: Mummy work too. Mummy take care of you, make you breakfast, that's work right?  Ha: *Looking at me weird* Naaaaw...that's not work. Mummy just played Snap (Dora snap cards) with me. So mummy no work. Mummy play! Daddy work.  Chet...D**n you Peppa Pig!  Aaaanyways.....  Ramadan's here! Maaf Zahir & Batin from us and a blessed Ramadan to all. Happy fasting, happy praying, happy sharing and happy giving!! :)

Older & Fatter

Image
Last week I celebrated another birthday. Happy Birthday to Me! Oh, and I am still pregnant. About a week or so to go now and am getting fatter everyday.  The last time I celebrated my birthday in Oz was 3 years ago, when I was a fatty too, pregnant with Ayisha. The weather's cold, chocolates & cakes aplenty, no guilt whatsoever in having my 3rd piece of cake on the same day and still having cake a week later. The baby needs it lah .   I think I mentioned before that when I hit the 30's, i seem to always forget how old I actually am when people ask about my age or when filling forms. I have to use my fingers to do the math. There's something about having kids too. When Ayisha came along, it was just so much more exciting to look forward to her birthday, her party & her presents.  Having said all that, I love being loved and remembered on my birthday. This year was no different. I had a wonderful celebration. With Michael, birthdays are celebrated ...

Our Chinese New Year Hols

Image
Like Malaysia, Bali embraces a lot of celebrations (read: public holidays). But instead of getting a week long school hols & 2 off day at work, we only get 1 for Chinese New Year. There’s not really much going on here except for the mandarins, lion dancing and fireworks. Even our Chinese friend (err..we only have 1 here) didn’t celebrate it so it’s just a long weekend for us. So what did we do? I started by sending Ayisha to Peekaboo with a babysitter – her teacher from school so that Michael and I could celebrate our belated anniversary. What were Michael & I up to? We went B.O.W.L.I.N.G!!! I know it's blur but I wanted to remember that I won by 1 point :p Way back when it’s just us, we went bowling all the time. Michael & I, we’re not very sporty. You know how you hear of couples that run together, go to gym together, cycling together etc.? We’re not them. We can play sports, never particularly good at anything (me that is) but our definition of tennis is ...
