World Youth Day 2008
The Pope was here in Sydney last week for the World Youth Day. It was HUGE!! On the nite of the final mass, i think about 1/2 million people gathered and spent the nite under the stars at the Randwick racecourse. I dunno how they did it with the very cold weather and all, but i thought that was pretty amazing.
Another thing that amazes me is the fact that these young pilgrims, aged from 13-35, from all over the world (i saw one Malaysian flag in the news at one point!) have such deep passion for their religion and especially for the Pope. These teenagers were going ga-ga over the Pope when they saw him in the Pope mobil during the motorcade and one girl even answered 'anything for the Pope' when asked about the crazy crowd that she had to go through to even catch a glimpse of the Pope.
I know nothing much about the whole WYD thingy. The only thing that i was concerned about was the possible delays with trains because of the road closures and all major events happening in the city with the big crowd. It was supposed to be crazy. But surprisingly, everything has been smooth sailing. We've been getting to work with no delays and the trains weren't super packed either. There's only more people around the city and the vibe was just different. Most say that it reminded them of when Sydney had the Olympics, with people carrying their country's flags proudly, singing, cheering and just so jovial.
We avoided the crazy crowd on the weekend and stayed in the Shire. On Saturday, we had Azi & Angus over for lunch bbq and introduced them to Wii.. :p That lunch was filled with lots of fatty goodness. I made baked potatoes and used a whole tub of cream in it. For dessert, i made chocolate pudding (instant punya :p) topped with another tub of cream. That's 2 tubs of cream in one meal..urgh...
On Sunday we had another lunch bbq, this time at my in-laws, to catch up with Michael's aunt & uncle visiting from Queensland. I made cookies and cream for dessert, using the leftover cream from Saturday. I knew if i left it in the fridge, the two of us would finish it in no time. So i thot it's best to spread the 'love' around :p It's just chocolate chip cookies drowned in cream, then let it sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Overnite even better. SEDAAAAAAAP!
After a weekend filled with bbq meat & fatty cream, i got my period and on Monday had to take time off work cos of my usual period pain. I dunno if it was the cream overload or PMS or what, but i started having this no-feeling-of-excitement-to-move moment. We've started packing a bit and i dunno..just feeling blergh...like couldnt be bothered. Maybe it's the many stairs that we have to go through to move our stuff. Im not sure. Just not so excited anymore. Not that i don't wanna leave our current place. I soo wanna leave. Especially with the cold weather and our place not getting any sun at all. Even with the heater on, the place is just so freakin cold it hurts so bad! I hope i'll get my excitement back soon! Cos we're gonna be getting the keys by the end of next week!!!!
