My Christmas & End of Year Story

This is my 3rd Christmas with the Laidlers. The 1st was in 2006 when i first got here. My 2 sisters and my ma were with us for my OZ wedding and Chrissy day was rushed cos they had to catch a flight back home. Last year was another kinda rushed Chrissy cos we had to catch a flight to New Zealand. This year, no one's going anywhere so we spent the whole Chrissy day at my in-laws and were the last ones leaving late at nite.

It was a looong day filled with too much food, warm loving family and great ho ho fun. The family part felt a lot like Raya but instead of rendang & duit raya, it's turkey and presents.

As always, i loooooooove seeing how Michael is with his family. It was actually the 1st time (besides his childhood years) that he had spent Xmas all day with his family. In the past, some years, he'd be away travelling, other years he'd be in Malaysia and almost any other years, after Xmas lunch, he'd head straight to the caravan for a 2-3 week long Xmas holiday break.

This year it's different. I dunno if me being pregnant is making him kinda mellow but we're not going down the caravan this time. He was planning his usual trip there from the very beginning and eventho i didnt get a long Xmas break i was planning to join him during the Xmas and NY long weekend. Then about a week before Xmas, he suddenly decided he's over it and didnt wanna go at all. It was shocking cos i know how much he looooves the van. Dalam hati a bit glad cos altho my morning sickness has slowed down a bit, i still dunno if i can handle caravan living feeling so blergh and tired most times and esp the 3 hour drive to get there battling motion sickness. So staying put for Xmas was fine by me.

Chrissy morning started with a big breakfast of bacon, eggs, hash browns, muffins & crumpets. We had halal beef bacon that tasted as good as bacon, so they say. Then it was prezzy time! Santa's very generous this year with everyone getting LOADS of presents! I think ive got the most heheh. Inclusive of 2 baby gifts for our littlest Laidler - booties and a Simpsons piggy bank.

Michael will always get at least 1 Simpsons related prezzy every year and now it's passing over to our lil'un plak. Besides that, I also received a whole new maternity wardrobe from my ever so thotful MIL. She also got us a lawnmower, a blender + food processor, journals, robes, books, kitchen stuff, TIM TAMS, and lots of other lil stuff. My SIL, Vicki got us quite a few stuff as well. The coolest would hafta be my TEAM EDWARD t-shirt! Wooooooohooo!!

After presents, we played some games. Bocce (a bit like lawn bawls) and a board game called Cinematique. EVERYTHING about movies! It's a pretty cool and fun game. U get to act out scenes, humm songs from movie soundtracks and answer movie trivias. It got a bit competitive and everyone's getting hungry again so we stopped for lunch.

Lunch was HUUUUGE! There's 2 types of turkey, roast chicken, roast beef, potato dish, spinach dip and 4 types of homemade desserts - trifle, rocky road ice cream, wafer creamy spongy thingy and a special original recipe chocolate cake from our South African friends that joined us for xmas this year. That was just HEAVENLY - made from a special S. African biscuits, layered with double cream & mixture of cocoa, butter n icing sugar. No bake, no fuss but sooooooooo YUMMMMMMMM!

We ate and played and ate some more and played and by 8pm i was sooo tired from all the eating i had a nap while others watched a movie on tv. We went home at about close to 12 i think, taking with us all the many presents & what's left of the leftover food.

The next day, we took my cousins Boxing day shopping. I was never around for Boxing day before and let me tell ya, never again! We went to Direct Factory Outlet and it was super duper crazy busy. Traffic's just horrible and there's just too many people. I surrendered after one loop and sat with Michael in one of the few empty benches in the middle of DFO playing the 'guess passersby's relationship' game whilst waiting for my cousins to finish shopping. They LOOOOOVE to shop. They've been going around the city by themselves most days to shop and find warehouse sales.

We took them to the Blue Mountains the next day so that they'd have some touristy thing to do. That was pretty hectic too. Soo many people, traffic was bad and it was raining when they wanted to the the cable car ride. But they're fine and the day after, they went to Bondi to shop some more.

They left earlier this week and the house is quiet again. It's been great having them around. I love how they eat EVERYTHING that i cook. They're also pretty good at getting around by themselves, exploring Sydney doing sight seeing and shop shop shop. It was also their first Aussie Xmas celebration and i hope they've had a wonderful stay here in Sydney.

Other than that, I've been back at work. Just me & my boss cos everyone else is still on hols. I have to cover other peep's job but it's been pretty cruisey. This week will be another long weekend for me cos im taking the 2nd off! yeaaaaaaah!! Tonite's NYE. We haven't got anything planned after our caravan trip was cancelled but last i heard Michael's got a surprise prepared for tonite and i can't wait!!! ;)))

He's been pretty active whilst im at work. Been playing golf with the boys, tennis with his ma & friends, spring cleaned the whole house yesterday and had friends over for dinner which he prepared for all by himself. All i had to do was add some kicap manis kipas udang to his nasi goreng cos he thot it was a bit tasteless & asked me to 'do something' about it. Other than that, everything's all ready. He's been pretty good at handling my pregnancy hormones & paranoia as well.

Im now only 15 weeks pregnant and am not really showing yet. I took a picture of myself cos fam & friends back home wanted to see my pregnant self but i don't really look like one. My tummy area is not really boink boink pointing out, but looks more like someone who exhales after a big fatty meal. Like, menggelebeh gitu, all over the place. Quite ugly actually. So, i'll take some n show much later, when i do get rounder & bigger nanti, ugly or not, promise.

My clothes are getting a bit tight but nothing major. Ive started wearing my new maternity jeans from my MIL jz cos it's so much more comfy after eating. I get senak perut wearing my old jeans after eating so that can't be good (excuse to eat more). My next doctor's appointment is not til the next few weeks and another scan will only be in February. So again, ive been feeling all worried and paranoid. Is it still there? It is all ok? bla bla bla...

Like how the other day, i got up really early coz i had to go to the toilet, did my business long and hard and came back all so panicky i had to wake Michael up..

Me: im worried...
M: what? (still half asleep)
Me: just did a REAAAAALLY big push cos sakit perut and now my tummy felt empty lah..feels like nothing (pressing tummy)...look here..
M: (konon2 buat panic mode juga) whaaaaaaaaaat?? did u push the baby out as well???????
Me:ha ha u soo funnny! (gerammmmmmmmmnya!)

Later on,
M: u look just fine..just be grateful that ur not big yet..later on u will, so jz enjoy it...

That's quite right. Made me feel a teeny bit better. Why do i wanna look pregnant so soon anyway? Maybe it's ok that im not big yet. Hopefully the baby's all good.

This is it then, the end of 2008. Wishing u all endless joy, wonderful blessings, many happiness and lotsa love for the new year!!!!

Yan enjoy the fact that you are not piling weight. I had such tough time nak shed all the extra fat post pregnancy time Adam. With this one, after deliver kalau susah gak jawabnya slimming center la.
