Next Top Model Wannabes
Last Sunday, Michael and I had a lil taste of what it was like to be treated like models or celebrities on a photoshoot for a magazine cover. We went to Star Shots to have our pictures taken & spent half a day being pampered and having lots of fun with the camera. It was such an enjoyable experience, so much more than i thought!
It's actually a Xmas gift from Michael's mum & sister - a voucher for a session with the professionals for a day of makeovers and glamour shots and 2 printed photos for free. All we have to do is book a session.
Even from the start when we went for a booking, the Star Shots staff, Emma, was extremely friendly and lots of fun. She made us all excited by telling us what we have to do and prepare for the day, to bring 3 sets of clothing, to think about any special mood or pose or background that we wanted to have and of course all the hair & make up and pampering that i'll get.
That was about a month ago when we booked. By last Sunday, we haven't come up with any photo ideas at all! We only organised our clothes on the Saturday and hoped for the best.
When we got there, i was straight away brought to get my make up & hair done. I LOVE it. Reminded me a bit of my wedding make up session but this time it's so much more comfy and pleasant and quicker too. I asked for a natural look but ended up with a LOT of make up on me. But Alex, the make up artist assured me this is how they do it for the magazines. With so much lighting during the shoot, it'd look just pefect. So i trusted her.
I had no idea how to wear my hair cos i was planning to cover for half of the shoot, so i can choose 1 photo with and 1 without tudung. So i opted for normal straight hair. But Kristi, the other girl there taking care of us, saw one of my outfits (the black one with the sequins i wore for the love boat wedding) and suggested i go for curly hair in that one. I've NEVER had curly hair before and always wanted to try, so YES lah, i want!
So we started with a casual look. We have NO IDEA what to do and depended so much on the photographer. Luckily, she's such a professional, telling us what to do in every shot. She'd experiment with lots of positions using different backgrounds (they've got lots in that lil studio!) and she's very good at what she does. She'd tell us where to look, how big a smile to have and would even tell us if she thinks our smiles were fake!
Our second costume was semi-formal, with both of us wearing white tops. The 3rd was probably the best one. We're both wearing black, a bit more dressy and i was ready for my curls! I thought it would take another hour but my hair was ready in 10 mins! Alex used the GHD hair curling thingy. It was just amazing. Seriously, i looked sooo different, Michael thought he's got a second wife :p I didnt even look like me. Felt like i was on American Idol or America's Next top Model or something. :p Glamour tau! hehehe
We had solo shots taken and Michael was enjoying it too much with all those macho sporty poses that he was asked to do. I had some solo shots too and at one point i was asked to lie down on a fluffy carpet and she had my curls spread around and had me lying in a pose that you'd see in a Dior perfume ad or something. We were laughing so much trying to be serious for some shots and faking extremely happy smiles in another.
After all that, we waited for about an hour for the viewing. It was done very professionally too. We were in a room with a big flat screen and had our photos on slideshow. They were all soooooooo amazing. My make up was perfectly natural and we both looked awesome! hehehe. Then it was time to pick our 2 photos.
This was the hardest bit. Kristi, who showed us the slideshow, took us thru the proccess of elimination and after a while, we managed to narrow it down to 13 photos. It was at this time that she talked about the many packages on offer. Of course there's one where we'd get 13 photos, complete with digital copy of them. The package price? $3000 plus! We told her honestly that we're just there cos of the voucher and would only pick the 2 free that we'd get. She was surprisingly nice about it and happily helped us go thru the elimination process again.
At this point, Michael and i was prepared to pay for 2 photos and have 4 altogether, just because this whole experience was such a fun one and also, cos we looked too good in those photos! heehhehe..We had to cut all those solo pics of us tho, so no pics of me doing a Dior ad :(( When we're down to 5 pics we just couldn't agree on the one left that we have to cut. We love all 5 of them and it was such torture! (so vain, i know)
We dunno if it's because it's almost closing time or Kristi was just tired of waiting for us to decide after almost 2 hours of viewing or she's just a plain sweetheart that she was all those time but she ended up throwing in an extra photo for FREE! :))))))) So we ended up getting 5 for the price of 2. Woohoo!
Unfortunately, we don't have the photos yet. They'll be ready in a few weeks time. We won't have the digital copy, so mite have to scan them or s'thing. But that might not look as good, so you might hafta come visit our house where the photos will be displayed. ;)
Anyways, before our 'being vain' session, we spent that Saturday cleaning up the house and emptying our study to make room for the baby! Well, Michael did most of the work, i sat with my legs up most of the time eating TIM TAMS. So tomorrow we're gonna pick up our second hand cot & changing table that my MIL found for us and put it in the baby room. Can't wait! ;)
I am now on my last week of the 2nd trimester. I can't believe it. Tho i think my tummy's starting to pop out, it's still fairly small. Some people still don't know that im pregnant. I do feel more tired & heavy and have to go pee every 5 seconds. Other than that, im feeling truly fine. I also now have a feeling that it's gonna be a girl. Maybe because i don't see my tummy shaped even close to a basketball and also cos ive been eating lots of sweets and desserts and chocolates. Well, i used to eat lots of them before as well but people say if you like sour stuff then it's a boy. I haven't been wanting anything sour, but who knows.
Besides that, another reason that i think it's a girl is probably influenced by the book that ive just finished reading called From Here to Paternity. The book says that a higher percentage of good looking couples will have a girl as their first born. heheheheheheh....(vain lagi). Actually, i don't really agree with this cos i know a LOT of beautiful couples who have boys as their first borns. And seriously, it really didn't matter if we have a girl or a boy cos once upon a time, we believe we're pretty hot in those star shots! kikikiki :p
The book is a really good read. It's written beautifully from a father's point of view from the moment he found out his partner's having a baby till the baby's born. It's full of facts and statistics yet still very funny & entertaining. A friend who just had a baby recommended it to us and I bought it for Michael. He read it first and loved it. He felt like he could really relate to the book - every single stage of pregnancy and every bit of emotions. That of course, intrigued me and I love it too. Helps me understand what Michael's truly feeling. He's been pretty calm about the whole pregnancy thing but i know he has his moments of fear, just like me. It's just the fear of the unknown. Not knowing what to expect and how this is such a big responsibility and how everything's gonna change. But at the same time, just being truly excited and looking forward to this new chapter of our lives. We're gonna be parents soon!!
Last nite when i felt the baby jumping & kicking vigorously after i had a big glass of iced cold sirap rose, i told Michael that i know i have a baby inside me, but i just realised that it's gonna come out soon and i have no idea how im gonna get it out of me. I think im starting to freak out just a lil bit......
