Rockstars & Satay in My Living Room
This happened not last Saturday, but last, last Saturday. I've been so slacked, I know. But this time i've got an excuse. I wanted to include pics & a video with this post but our connection at home has been giving us grief lately and Im not comfortable uploading them at work, see. So this post kept getting postponed till now lah. Still no pics & video but i thot i should jz update my blog. Plus, Michael's been bugging me to either update my blog or tell him stories via email while he's working. Yeah, he does that every now n then when he's either too busy or too bored. Penglipur lara le konon-konon. But im running out of story ideas and intros - asyik2 'once upon a time' and 'not so long ago', so im updating this!
So that Saturday we had our Malaysian friends over for a post raya get together cum housewarming for those who couldnt make our first one. OKlah, actually the real reason for this gathering is - to play our Wii Guitar Hero World Tour baby!
The rockstars: Yuz & Ken, Lina & Sanjiv, Azi & Angus
The menu: OZ BBQ - sausos & steak, potato bake, vegie lasagna, vegie nasi goreng (courtesy of Lina, so simple yet sedap nak mampus!), Tiramisu (courtesy of Yuz, seriously NOT ENUFF! :p) and and and and SATAAAAAAAAAAY woohoo!
Lina ordered the satay for us but Michael went to pick it up from K.Dah that Saturday morning. K.Dah is where Lina goes to to fulfill all of her Malay dishes & kuihs cravings. She is such a good cook and super funny too! On that first meeting, Michael successfully secured an open invitation to her house where she said she'll cook for us and also, teach Michael how to make Murtabak. Woohooo!!
Everyone started arriving at about 1pm. The girls sat in the kitchen konon2 prepare meals, but we've actually started eating Lina's super yummo nasi goreng whilst the boys were outside mending the BBQ. The satay took forever to cook. My best guess - too many 'helpers' having a try taste.
I think we sat for hours devouring all the dishes. Even when I felt full to the max, seeing Lina scooping another helping of baked tatoes and Yuz picking up another satay stick, felt like u gotta have jz a lil bit more of that nasi goreng. It's only when the boys started having their picks at the guitars and drums that we're suddenly able to get our butts off the kitchen chairs to not let them conquer all the fun.
Playing with the whole band was sooo much better than just the 2 of us. When we first got the game, I only wanted the microphone and Michael would alternate between the guitar & the drums. After a while, I got a bit bored cos i didnt know most of the rock songs that we need to open up at the beginning. Bon Jovi & Michael Jackson still ok, but other noisy ones s'times i only know the chorus. So Michael would play the guitar, put a cushion on his tummy and the mic on top of the cushion so that he could play & sing, to open all the other songs that i didnt wanna sing. After a while, we got some really good songs and when i wanted the mic back, he didnt wanna let go!!!!! This is from someone who never ever wanted to go karaoke with me.
Not only him. Sanjiv, Lina's hubby who, according to Lina, would never eva sing in public, was screaming away in our living room like no one's business. In the beginning everyone a bit shy shy cat lah... and no one wanted the microphone. They'd alternate with the guitar, bass & drums (pretty hard this one) . The girls then started to warm up to the microphone and then after a while, the boys couldnt get enuff of them! At one point, we girls went back to the kitchen to eat and left the boys with the toys and u'd hear all the different pitched voices. It was so intense too. Everyone has to do their own part well. If the music suddenly stops and u hear the crowd boo'ing, means someone's messed up and everyone would stare at each other to blame one another. Serious stuff! Especially if you're up to 80 percent completing the song and it suddenly stopped! Normally the drums le yang spo'el. Cos it's HARD! So either Kennedy or Michael would constantly play them, cos the rest of us truly sucked at it...hehehehe. But it was such a FUN day!
My kesimpulan of this whole day? If u wanna get someone to karaoke, get Guitar Hero World Tour!
