Seafood Platter, Antenatal Class & A Wedding

Belated Mother's Day Celebration

Last Friday night, we took Michael's parents to Sea Level - a seafood restaurant at Cronulla beach for a belated Mother's Day treat. My SIL, Vicki & hubby Darren also joined us and we all had the seafood platter for two. It was HUGE and it was gooooooood!

First time having watermelon juice here that's just like home!

It was also a little thank you from us for all the many many things that they've done especially in this past couple of months in anticipation of the arrival of our lil'un. Seriously, i think 90% of the things that we have in our baby room or the new stuff that we've got for the house for that matter, came from Michael's parents -baby seat, my maternity clothes, my big comfy bolster that helps a lot with me sleeping comfortably at nite, rugs, curtains, to name a few.

Whenever i ask Michael to get something done or discuss the things that we need for the house/baby room, he'd always joke that we should casually mention it to his mum and she would get it for us, which i know without a doubt that she would. So, i've been very careful not to mention stuff that we're lacking of to her cos we don't wanna abuse her generosity. But what's freaky is that sometimes, i don't really have to say anything but just THINK it. Like the other day i thought about getting a new heater for the house and the next few days, we got it from her! So now im controlling my thoughts as well :p

I know how extremely lucky i am to have such wonderful in-laws. They've been very supportive right from the beginning - from the whole issue of Michael converting and marrying this crazy muslim girl who was scared of their beloved family dog, up till this very day. I don't think we could ever thank them for what they've done. I just hope i won't forget all these things and take them for granted, ever.

Antenatal Class

Last Saturday morning, we went to our 1st antenatal class. The 8-week night sessions were fully booked so we were given the 4-hour intensive sessions for 2 Saturdays. It was definitely INTENSE. I think we saw too much. Michael was already PMS'ing from having to get up super early after a full tummy from the night before. By the end of the class, after being shown the picture of a placenta and a birthing video, his PMS'ing heightened and he did not look good at all.

We did learn quite a bit from that 1st class. It was pretty interactive and there's about 10 couples, all expecting our 1st child in either June or July and guess what? Only 1 couple found out the sex of the baby. Hearing them share their experiences and all, we felt so unprepared. When the midwife asked on pregnancy & baby related questions like, do we know about this, or have we heard about that, almost all of them would put their hands up and nodding along whilst Michael and i would be looking at each other hoping one of us would know SOMETHING. There's so much that we didnt know!

We also learned about all the different ways that can help during labour. Apparently we can bring in whatever we want -music, acupuncture, aromatherapy etc and do whatever - dancing, squatting, on all fours, bean bags, hypnosis, spa bath, shower etc - whatever position we're most comfortable in to have the baby. All i ever imagined was me being on the bed with my legs wide open. They really want us to try EVERYTHING first before any drugs are involved.

There's also a big emphasise on breasfeeding. They even have a fake boob to show us what it's all about.

Besides the boob, there's lots of other props involved too and it's pretty hands on most of the time. We have a few dolls being passed around and the midwife would put a crying baby on tape and we hafta come up with ways to soothe the baby. At one point, Michael has to change the baby's nappy and he was stopped from the very beginning. The midwife knelt beside him and politely said 'First things first, u probably wouldn't want to cover your baby's face like that'. Michael was pulling the doll's dress up to put the nappy on and it was covering her face! The thing is, I saw it then, but didn't even think that it's wrong. Michael didn't even think of it either. He's more focused on showing off his nappy changing skills. It was pretty funny actually :p The midwife's pretty nice too, not making us feel too bad. ;)

It's a pretty good experience especially for us blur people. I wonder what other toys we'll be playing with this Saturday!

Azi & Angus' Wedding

On Saturday night, we drove close to an hour to Balmain for Azi & Angus' wedding. This is a very special wedding and one that we were really honoured to be a part of.

It's a very private & small ceremony held at home for just family so we really didn't really think we'd get invited. But when they asked Michael to be one of the witnesses, we were thrilled!

Azi's parents couldn't make it at the last minute which was a bit sad, but we did have them on webcam on skype all nite for them to share this special occasion!

The whole ceremony was so simple & quick. The Imam gave a nice speech before the ceremony and i think everyone enjoyed it, especially Angus' family who's still adjusting to the fact that he had embraced & converted to Islam. I thought the Imam did an excellent job in reassuring the family what Islam is all about and what marriage in Islam means. Basically he's just confirming the fact that we're all the same and the most important thing is to respect each other and accept each other's family, regardless of their beliefs. He emphasised a lot on how Angus' family is now Azi's family, and how she has to respect them as her own.

With the beautiful bride

The ceremony itself was over in about 2 mins, with the Imam shaking Angus' hand and asking if he'd take Azi as his wife, showing the dowry, getting the witnesses to check the dowry and ended with 'I accept' from Angus.

I think that one witness there a bit nervous lah..hehehe

The food, OMG! I can't remember how many servings i had. They're so YUMMM! And desserts were excellent too!

I wish them all the very best & many many happiness & blessings in this life and the hereafter. Thank you for letting us be a part of it all!

With Angus' mum.

Baby Updates

We went to see Dr Chan 2 days ago and he said the baby's engaged! I dunno if this means the baby can come anytime soon but i also heard that for the first baby, it doesn't necessarily mean that the labor's gonna be early too. So i dunno.

I googled the full moon theory thingy again and discovered the next full moon is on the 7th June. That's 37 weeks for me! So im not sure if it's gonna come that early now! Ive always had this feeling that the baby's gonna come early, but not that early! But the next full moon is 7th July, so i might be a week later also. Either way, i hope we'll be okay.

I feel less breathless now and no more rib pains. But i have to go to the toilet a LOT. Thankfully, my sleeps have been uninterrupted. I didn't wake up in the middle of the night and i've been sleeping pretty comfortably. Too comfortable i was told. My roaring's back :p

Oh, last but not least, THANK YOU ALL for the wonderful birthday wishes & presents :)))

mmg bila baby's engaged, jadi there will be more room in your tummy, hence, blh makan banyak2 :D heheheh... on the other hand, it also means lots of trips to toilet... as baby's head is pressing ur bladder... but it's a great experience... just enjoy it. by the way, during both my first and 2nd pregnancy i join a forum in babycentre.co.uk try join a thread of mummies who are expecting babies in the same months as you... then, you can learn what others are experiencing...
